Instant Transfer Fee in Detail

Cash App’s instant transfer rate is variable — between 0.5% and 1.75% depending on your account — with a $0.25 minimum. Unlike Venmo (flat 1.75%, max $25) and Apple Cash (flat 1.5%, max $15), Cash App has no stated maximum cap for instant transfers.

At the minimum rate (0.5%):

Transfer Amount Fee at 0.5% Venmo fee (1.75%) Apple Cash (1.5%)
$50 $0.25 (min) $0.88 $0.75
$100 $0.50 $1.75 $1.50
$200 $1.00 $3.50 $3.00
$500 $2.50 $8.75 $7.50
$1,000 $5.00 $17.50 $15.00
$1,429 $7.15 $25.00 (Venmo max) $15.00 (Apple max)

At the maximum rate (1.75%):

Transfer Amount Fee at 1.75% Venmo fee (1.75%) Notes
$100 $1.75 $1.75 Same as Venmo
$500 $8.75 $8.75 Same
$1,000 $17.50 $17.50 Same
$1,429+ $25.00+ $25.00 (Venmo capped) Cash App exceeds Venmo

Key insight: At the low end (0.5%), Cash App is substantially cheaper than Venmo and Apple Cash for instant transfers. At the high end (1.75%) with no cap, large instant transfers cost more than Venmo’s $25 maximum. If you regularly cash out large amounts instantly, Venmo’s $25 cap becomes an advantage.

Credit Card Funding Fee

Sending money funded by a credit card costs 3% — charged to the sender. As with other payment apps, your card issuer may also treat this as a cash advance with additional fees and a higher APR.

To avoid this: Fund all Cash App sends from your Cash App balance or a linked bank account/debit card.

Business Payment Fee

Business accounts pay 2.75% per transaction received — no fixed fee per transaction. This is slightly lower than PayPal’s 3.49% + $0.49 rate, and comparable to Venmo Business (1.9% + $0.10) and Square (2.6% + $0.10 in-person).

Platform Business receive fee
Cash App 2.75%
Venmo Business 1.9% + $0.10
Square (in-person) 2.6% + $0.10
PayPal G&S 3.49% + $0.49
Stripe 2.9% + $0.30

For pure digital P2P-style business payments, Venmo Business has a lower effective rate than Cash App. For businesses needing broader infrastructure (invoicing, POS), Square or Stripe is more capable.

Bitcoin Fee

Cash App does not charge a direct commission on Bitcoin transactions. Instead, it applies a spread — it buys Bitcoin at a slightly higher price than market and sells at a slightly lower price. The spread varies but is typically 1.5–3% depending on market conditions, plus a small service fee. The exact cost is shown before you confirm any Bitcoin transaction.

ATM Fee Reimbursement

If you receive at least $300 in direct deposits per month, Cash App reimburses:

  • Up to 3 ATM withdrawal fees per 31-day period
  • Including both the $2.50 Cash App fee and any operator surcharge

Without qualifying direct deposit: $2.50 per withdrawal + operator fee. To set up direct deposit, go to Banking → Get Account Number in the app and provide the routing and account number to your employer.

How to Avoid Cash App Fees

  1. Use standard transfers — wait 1–3 business days; always free
  2. Use the Cash Card — spend your balance directly at stores with no cash-out fee
  3. Set up direct deposit — unlocks free ATM withdrawals
  4. Fund sends from balance/bank — avoid the 3% credit card surcharge
  5. Use Zelle or Google Pay for instant transfers — both are always free if your recipients are enrolled
